Sketch #37 @ Sketchabilities

What an amazing day I have had. We visited the Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape. It is one of South Africa's National Parks that has the BIG FIVE as residents. When you visit the national parks here you are normally very lucky if you see just one of the BIG FIVE. Well today we saw three!!!!! How cool is that.

We saw elephants, buffalo and LION. That was the luckiest one of all because it is very difficult to see them normally. We spotted them sitting up on a bit of a hill. We stopped and watched for a while and sure enough they started moving and they walked right past the front of our car. SCARY!!!!!! but awesome....

Here are a few of the pics I took. These will definitely be part of a scrapping LO somewhere down the line!!

How awesome is that. We were soooooo lucky!!!!! Made our day really special. We are crazy about the bush, so this was amazing.

Now too scrapping business. I completed a LO for Sketch 37 over at Sketchabilities . Here is what the sketch looked like.

My DGS and his BF both lost their first tooth at the same time. This is a pic of the two of them giving me a huge smile to show their missing teeth. Too cute.

All that's left is to remind you to sign up for my blog candy HERE .

I want to wish one and all a very Blessed Christmas. Enjoy time with family and good friends!! Thank you for all the good wishes I have received.

Sweet Card

I have had such a fun day today! I spent the day on the beach with my Darling husband, exploring rock pools. We go home in the early afternoon and I spent the afternoon working on a LO for Lets Scrap DT.

Thought I was so ahead because I had completed all the December LO's by the middle of November.
What a shock when I realised that there is only one more December LO to go and the year is finished!!!! Anyway I obviously can't share that LO with you, but I also made a sweet card for our friends.

They will be arriving on Monday 27th to spend two weeks with us, before we all head back up to Johannesburg. My friend Averill loves these little caramel/chocolate yummy goodies that a local baker makes. They are called Dune Pies and so I have bought her some of those and made them a sweet card as a welcome when they arrive on Monday.

This is what the card looks like

Got the idea from one of the card making mags, but I honestly can't remember what it is called. I buy card making mags about three times a year. They are really expensive here because they are all imported.
Enjoy whatever is left of your day and remember in these crazy busy times leading up to Christmas, take a half an hour or so to be kind to yourself.

Wednesday ~ which means Lets Scrap Sketch

Hi everyone. Christmas is now literally round the corner. Hope all your preparations are going smoothly and that those who want a white Christmas will get it, and those that don't hope your weather clears. Unfortunately a white Christmas is not a reality that I could wish for if I stay is South Africa for Christmas, so I just take whatever comes along, which is normally a scorching hot day!!!!

This week we have a fun sponsor for the prize over at Lets Scrap.

Check out their sweet products here

Here is the wonderful sketch that Cheri over at Lets Scrap  prepared for us

I used pics of my niece's two gorgeous children, who were just playing round being silly. Love how my LO turned out.

Frosted Designs Tuesday Sketch

Well, I finally get to post a LO. I have withdrawal symptoms. I packed up a lot of my stash to bring with me on my holiday. I have the most beautiful spot that I sit and scrap at when we are in PE for our holidays. I look out of the glass door and see the small mountain behind our house. It is amazing. Anyway that is off the track of what I wanted to say. When we arrived and unpacked ~ DH had forgotten my one bag (the one with all my paper in) at home.
I must admit I did sulk for a while, but today I went into town and bought a whole lot of new paper. So I have spent the whole afternoon scrapping ~ and smiling again......LOL.
I loved the Tuesday Sketch at Frosted Designs last week.

My daughter, Kerry and her friend Sam have been down here on holiday since 10th December and so they have plenty of holiday photos already. The Friday Challenge at Frosted Designs was to use the word "family" or base your LO on family. I decided to combine the two challenges.

These two have been friends since second grade ~ they still giggle and screech like they used to all those years ago!!!!

I am finished scrapping for the day. Going to sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine with my Husband. Thanks for looking. Hope all the Christmas preparation is going fine. To those who are experiencing bad weather ~ be safe!!!

I Made Top Three

Hello everyone ~ finally at the sea YAY!!! We had a real gruelling road trip that lasted 13 hours yesterday. A lot of the way we drove through driving rain. To top it off we were travelling with our two dogs and there four three week old puppies. What a day. But God is good and we arrived safe and sound.

I saw this morning that I had made top three over at Frosted Designs with my ribbon card. How cool is that?? This is what my card looked like

Thanks to the team over at Frosted Designs. Go on over an take a look. Today brings a new challenge, which is family themed. Don't forget there is also the amazing Tuesday sketch.

Have a great weekend and hope all your Christmas preparations are going well.

The Joy of Special Friends

Only two more sleeps and we'll be off to the sea. I feel so excited, I can hardly wait.

We had a Christmas dinner with some of our friends last Wednesday night. It was such fun. The two girls organised it. We each had to buy a gift for R30-00 ($5). It sounds impossible, but it was so much fun, because everyone found such amazing things! We then played a game where number one chose a gift from under the tree, number two could either take number one's gift or pick one from under the tree. It sounds real complicated, but it was hysterically funny.

The only people who did not have to worry about their gifts were the grand children. Theres were safe!!!

I did a Christmas LO using the pics from our dinner. I used a sketch from Lets Scrap. Here is what it looks like.

I had loads of pics and so made a concertina book using the Christmas tree photo as the cover of the book. I don't normally do Christmas LO's and so I am quite happy about the way it turned out. Think I might even do a few more Christmas LO's this year.

Enjoy the rest of your day. We are having a yummy roast dinner tonight with special friends before we go away. Until next time, take care!!

Don't forget to sign up for my blog candy. The post is on top of my side bar!

Card with Ribbon for Frosted Designs

Hooray!!!!!! This is the week we get to go on our summer holiday! Looking so forward to being down at the sea, long walks on the beach and some real quality family time.

I came across Frosted Designs two weeks ago when they had their fabulous blog hop. I was so impressed by what they have going on over there. There Friday challenge was to do a LO, card or altered item and use some ribbon on it.

I had seen these flowers made with paper and ribbons in a magazine and decided to give it a go. This is the birthday card I came up with. It will be given to my SIL.

I liked the flowers a lot. Ideal to use up all your bits of left over ribbon. Head on over to Frosted Designs and take a look at all the other fabulous projects.

Have a happy week!!!!

Number One Papa

The new sketch over at Sassy Lil' Sketches is a real cool sketch for a simple LO with pics being the main focus. I loved it. This is what the sketch looks like:

I have very few photos of Gussy and the grandchildren together and so this LO was perfect for some pics that I took a few weeks ago. I loved these Echo Papers "A walk in the Park" range. This is what I created with the sketch

I really love these pics. Go on over to Sassy Lil' Sketches and check out what the amazing DT have come up with. Thanks for looking. Till next time ~ keep safe!! Don't forget to check out the link to my blog candy!!!

New Sketch at Lets Scrap

Sorry I am only posting Wednesday's Lets Scrap challenge today, but we had a Christmas dinner celebration last night with good friends who we will not be seeing over Christmas.

This weeks sponsor is Paper Wishes and this is what they are giving to the lucky winner who will be randomly drawn.

Is this not a pretty package?

This is the gorgeous sketch that Cheri from Lets Scrap came up with.

This sketch screamed fun at me and so I chose to use real bright colors.I did a LO of Dorian and Claudia (surprise - surprise)  I took them to the zoo during the July school holidays. We were only in the zoo for five minutes when they convinced me their legs were tired and I needed to hire a cart. I pushed them around the whole zoo and was exhausted by the time our visit was finished!!

Here is my take on the sketch.

Materials used:
Paper: Bo Bunny
Cardstock: Color mates
Brads: Bo Bunny Candy Brads
Acrylic Stamps for circle: Bo Bunny clearly stamps
Flowers: Hand made with scraps and doilies.

Go on over to Lets Scrap and take a look at what the other DT girls came up with. Try the sketch out yourself an put yourself in line to win the cool prize!!

Thanks for looking!! Till next time, be safe!

My First Ever BLOG CANDY

Hi everyone. Hope the day is treating you well.

I have been reflecting a lot lately on what the past year has meant to me. I have come to the conclusion that I have had a very blessed year. This also coincides with the fact that my blog is three months old (I was really nervous about starting it) and that I found this huge circle of amazing people who share my passion for scrapping - and I get to interact with them in my own sitting room.

I have put together a pack of goodies - the papers and chipboard die cuts are all proudly South African - papers and embellishments are from Art from the Heart range by Tracey Schimper.

In order to stand a chance to be in the draw to win these gorgeous scrappy goods you need to do only two things:

1) Become a follower of my blog and leave me a comment. If you are already a follower please leave a comment so that you will be entered in the drawing. Please also leave me a way to contact you should you win.

2) Please place my candy on your side bar with a link back to my blog.

The candy will run through to the 15th January, 2011 and I will do the drawing on 16th January.

I would like to wish one and all a very Blessed Christmas and all you wish yourselves for 2011. For those that will be travelling during the holidays, be safe!

Blog Hop over at Frosted Designs

Hi fellow crafters. Happy Monday to you all. Hope you have all had a good weekend.

There is a really exciting blog hop happening over at Frosted Designs. Loads of awesome prizes to be won and some real nice challenges. If you use the Frosted Designs  Tuesday sketch, and add glitter to it you get to enter the sketch contest as well.

How cool is that. Two chances to win with one LO.

Here is the LO that I created. I painted the chipboard letter "C" and then sprinkled glitter on it. It does not show up that well on the photo. I also added Stickles to the doiley under the flowers.

Supplies:
Paper: Cosmo Cricket pixielicious, Winged Wishes
Rub ons: T.L.C.
Metal Disc: Making Memories
Doiley: Crate papers
Punch: Martha Stewart
Flowers: Petaloos
Odds and Ends: Glitter, chipboard letter, stickles

Go on over to Frosted Designs and check out the fun for yourself.

Thanks for looking. Till next time be safe.

My Tooth Fell Out

YAY YAY!!! Its Friday....weekend at last. This week seems to have been a really tough week. Glad that it is weekend. Some nice chilling time!

I was over at Soul Scrappers and saw this challenge, that did not seem too challenging (go figure) - but it was the kind of challenge I could deal with today! Create a layout and use photo corners on your page.

I had three photos of Dorian that I took when he lost his first tooth. I also had some Sassafrass Lass Applejack paper scraps and so I created this LO.....

Dorian got R10-00 left in his shoe for his tooth. I asked him what he was going to buy with it. He said a PSP. I said you don't have enough money for a PSP ~ Oh yes says he....you just give the man in the shop five and he gives you a PSP. LOL....if only!!!!

All the paper on the LO is from Sassafrass Lass, the tooth mouse and teeth are handmade by me and the rub-ons for the title are Color Rubz by Scrap Works.

Hope you have an awesome weekend. Thanks for looking. Until next time....

New Sketchabilities Sketch

What a day I have had today. I looked after my DGD for the day. She is two years old, and as  woman in the supermarket said to me today "small girl, big attitude". She is just so sweet because she listens to everything and soaks it up like a sponge ~ then she repeats it when you least expect it!

Karan has a really cool new sketch over at Sketchabilities. Here is what it looks like.

I have a ton of photos that I still need to scrap from when our grandchildren were much younger. I loved this sketch and decided to use one of those pics. Here is my LO:

Some close ups

Claudia was exactly two months old. I feel real good about getting old pics scrapped. It's just that the new ones are so exciting sometimes, that I rather do them.

Off The Beaten Track

It's Wednesday, which means it is Lets Scrap sketch reveal day. As usual Cheri did not disappoint. This is what the sketch looks like -

We visited in Lydenburg towards the end of October. On our way home we turned off onto a little dirt road and came upon this real peaceful, beautiful place. We walked for a while and found the waterfall. Lovely spot. This is what I did with the sketch -

Pretty place - I love travelling around and going off on a quiet road, you never know what you might find!!

Head on over to Lets Scrap and take a look at what the other DT members came up with. Maybe enter your own LO. This is what is up for grabs this week, a $20.00 gift certificate from:

You are a Superstar

Hello again. Hope you are having a wonderful day. I attended my Grandson's graduation day from pre-primary to grade one on Wednesday. It was so sweet and I could not believe how emotional I felt. Anyway I received a pack of his official photos and combined them with some pics that we took on the day to create a LO.

I used a sketch from Cheri over at Lets Scrap. It is the perfect sketch because there is a giant pocket to store all the memorabilia from the day. Inside the pocket I put the invitation to the graduation and Grade one orientation, the programme from the graduation, his report card and a letter I wrote him telling him how proud I am of him.

The journalling is the remark that his teacher wrote on his report card.

Cardstock: Colormates
Patterned paper: Breezy designs
Stickers: 7 Gypsies and Me & My Big Ideas
Rub ons: Color Rubz by Scrap Works
Punch: Martha Stewart

Enjoy the rest of your day. Thanks for looking!

Precious - Sassy Lil' Sketch 28th November

I wasn't sure if I would get this one done today, so I get to do two posts......makes up for the times when I go through three or four days with nothing to post. This is the new sketch at Sassy Lil' Sketches.

The photos I used are the cutest pics. My niece Claire's daughter and my nephew Kyran's daughter look like two little old women, discussing their tired feet and then grabbing their handbags when the bus arrives. I just love the photos!

Don't you think they are just soooo cute.

Pattern papers - Cosmo Cricket Pixielicious Range.
Cardstock - Bazill.
Rub ons - Breezy Designs
Flower Stamp - Studio G

Go on over and visit Sassy Lil' Sketches . Check out the cool LO's.

Thanks for looking. If you have visited please leave a comment, so that I can visit your blog.

Flower Girl

The new Sassy Lil' Sketches sketch is already out and I am only completing my LO for the last one now, and I did not even have Thanksgiving in between.

Here is what the sketch looked like -

I really loved the thought of all the squares of paper. Having finished my LO now, I am not that sure whether I am 100% happy ~ but I guess that you can't love everything you do. Sometimes your page just won't turn out the way you imagine it in your head.

Here is what I did -

Why not go over to Sassy Lil' Sketches and check out what all the other LO's look like. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!

If you have visited, please leave a comment so that I know you have been here! Thanks for Looking.

My Challege at Lets Scrap

This is my challenge over at Lets Scrap. I would love for you to go over and have a go at using a Lets Scrap sketch and making your own flowers.
Hi guys. My turn to set a challenge this week. At the moment I have a fascination for homemade flowers.
So, I want you to do a LO using a LS sketch and at least one homemade flower. It does not have to be an intricate flower ~ you can cut a flower out of your patterned paper, use your cricut, slice machine, stencil or anything else you have as long as you have at least one homemade flower on your LO.
To give you a little inspiration I am listing a few really cool tutorials for flowers that are a bit more challenging ~ but good fun to try, if you have the time.
Hope you have loads of fun being creative with flowers!
Tag your LO challenge78 no spaces, don’t forget to tell us what sketch you used, and load it in the gallery before midnight on Friday 3rd December, 2010.
I have put together a Proudly South African RAK for the randomly drawn winner.
Here is my LO inspired by Wendy G and using sketch 9-6-10.

Don't you think Meegan is an absolute little darling? We visited my niece Claire and her family recently and Meegan wanted me to photograph her "modelling". Too cute!!!

Thanks for Looking. Please leave a comment if you have visited. I would love to visit your blog in return!

  • Q: Favourite movie                                                  A: Big Green

New Sketch Reveal at Lets Scrap

Hi from a very thundery Johannesburg. Knew it was going to come pouring down today because it has been hot and muggy all day.

Today the sketch over at Lets Scrap is so cool. I loved this sketch. Have a look and see what you think?

I decided to create a collage with my photos for the RHS page so that I could fit more photos on the LO. My photos were taken in Lydenburg when we went to visit Claire and Morne (my niece and her DH). They took us to this really cute place called Hops Hollow. Hops Hollow's claim to fame is that it is the highest (altitude wise) brewery in Africa. How cool is that!!!

It was a fun place to visit and the fact that it was misty and raining up in the mountains made the atmosphere amazing.

Go on over to Lets Scrap and check out what the other DT members have come up with.

Enjoy the rest of Wednesday. Please leave me a comment if you have visited as I would love to visit your blog as well.

Luv U Dad

Hi Again! I had such fun doing this LO for Jennifer's challenge at Lets Scrap. Recipe was, and I used
  • something old - brad from my stash
  • something new - made the best dad embellies
  • something borrowed - Kerry's corner punch
  • something blue - paper.
The photos were taken on Sunday when we went to visit Warrick and Denise. Warrick has been so ill and he was relaxing under the tree on a blanket. Claudia and Dorian thought it would be fun to jump on him.

It was so sweet because they would not say "cheese" they were saying "love you dad" instead.

Paper: American Crafts - Brights Bundle
DCWV - Doodle Rub Ons
Flowers - Upikit Rub Ons
Photo Corners - Fab Scraps Corner Punch
Best Dad Embellies - Handmade
Title and Sun - Cut out with Slice Machine

Have a happy day and if you visit, please leave me a comment. Would love to repay the compliment and visit you in return.

Sassy Lil' Card Sketch.

Today it feels like winter again. We have gone from 86 deg F last week this time to 60 deg F today. It's crazy I tell you. I am real glad because I function way better when it is cooler!!! This week Sassy Lil' Sketches has a card sketch. I am determined to get better at creating cards and the only way to do that is to practice. This is the sketch that Cherie provided.

My card is very basic, but hey I tried!!!

Not too bad for a beginner. I do dream of the day that my cards will look as good as all the others do. I am dying to try the fancy stamping and coloring stuff, but I need to build up a whole lot of courage before I do that. I have bought all the "stuff" now I just need to wake up feeling brave....Heehee.

Until next time ~ take care. Please leave a comment if you visit, that way I can return the compliment and visit your blog. Thanks for looking!!

It's Wednesday ~ Time for a new sketch from Let's Scrap

Hello from a thundery Johannesburg. It's the third Wednesday of November (already) and that means we have a card sketch at Lets Scrap. This week Kimmy really threw us a curved ball and based her sketch on a quilting block. I am amazed at how everybody added their own twist to this card. Stop off at Lets Scrap and take a look at what the DT came up with.

All those who know me will understand that I really struggle with cards and so I found this one particularly challenging. Anyway the finished product was not too bad.
The paper I used is My Mind's Eye ~ Quite Contrary range. Stitching is DCWV rub ons. The flower was cut using a slice machine and the top layer covered with diamond glaze.

Thanks for looking. Please leave a comment so that I know you have visited. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Clown Around

I am teaching my six year old grandson how to do a blog post. He is sitting next to me asking all the questions under the sun. Maybe I should let him have his own blog. JUST imagine. He is already telling me his school holidays are going to be too long. Wonder what it is going to be like by the middle of January.

I went over to Sketchabilities via a blog that I visited and I came across their new sketch. Its really cool and I had a lot of fun doing my LO. Here is the sketch.

Dorian (my grandson) is so tired of the camera and so I very seldom manage to take good pics of him. He just clowns around and pulls funny faces. I have some Sassafras paper which was perfect for the pics I had.

This is the LO that I did.

Everything on the LO is from the Applejack Sassafras range except for the bracket. I cut that out of a piece of Dream Street Paper.

Thanks for looking. I would love for you to leave a comment, that way I could visit your blog in return. happy day!
